Welcome to the website of my postdoctoral research project. I’d like to take a moment to introduce myself, the scholar behind the work.
I’m David Hazemali and I work as a Research Associate in the Department of History at the University of Maribor, Faculty of Arts, where I earned my PhD in December 2023. My research lies at the crossroads of military history, migration studies, and ethnic studies, with recent ventures into linguistics, scientometrics, economics, and the innovative use of conversational AI within the humanities.

Currently, my primary focus is this postdoctoral project investigating the experiences of South Slavs from the former Austro-Hungarian Empire living in the United States during World War I. I am particularly interested in how these communities navigated issues of identity, loyalty, and belonging during a tumultuous time.

I am also active in other projects and research output-focused groups. By engaging with multidisciplinary teams, I strive to build bridges across academic fields and contribute to a richer, more nuanced understanding of history. As a historian, I believe my role goes beyond recounting the past; I aim to illuminate the processes through which societies make important decisions, creating space for reflection and critical dialogue both within academia and the wider community.
Looking ahead, I am committed to sharing my research with broader audiences and continuing to explore the dynamic intersections between the Slovenian ethnic territory and the United States. I see great potential here, not only for advancing historical scholarship but also for fostering deeper cultural and academic connections between these two regions in the 21st century.
